Now that Mariah Carey has sold her enormous diamond engagement ring from billionaire ex James Packer, the pop icon is ready to move on to jewelry that feels more personal.
During a dinner date with boyfriend Bryan Tanaka at LA’s Mr. Chow on Tuesday, Carey, 48, was photographed wearing glittery butterfly rings on both hands.
The star has long considered the winged insect to be her spirit animal: In addition to having a song, album, and even an entire record label named after it, Carey dubbed her upcoming
Las Vegas residency “The Butterfly Returns,” making her latest choice of jewelry particularly appropriate.
Page Six was the first to report that Carey had offloaded her 35-carat engagement ring to an LA jeweler for $2.1 million. “Mariah has been very vocal recently about her choice to move forward in her life surrounded by positivity,” her publicist told us at the time. “That requires
leaving emotional and material baggage behind, including an old engagement ring from an ex-boyfriend.”
The butterfly returns, indeed.
